Space Coast Field of Dreams is a place where physically and developmentally disabled individuals can play sports alongside with able-body buddies. Our program provides special need and able-bodied leagues that are lead by experienced coaches who inspire and motivate our players. SCFOD leagues are played on a non-competitive basis and we do not take score nor play in competitive games against any outside teams. Our leagues are like clinics, set up to allow players (of all abilities) to learn the fundamentals and basics of each sport. Our program was created to foster the development of peer relationships, self-esteem, and physical health for players of all needs and abilities.
Our leagues address four key areas:
- Equipment & Court Specifications– learning the appropriate use of equipment and the court details
- Game Structure–length of the game, scoring, and timeouts
- Game Tactics–team participation, player-to-player play, and responsibility
- Game Play Rules– correct positioning and direction, fouls, outs and penalties.
Everyone plays and no one is turned away regardless of their abilities. Our program features youth (ages 4 -17) baseball, golf, basketball, and soccer leagues, in addition to an adult (age 18+) baseball league. All SCFOD fields and courts have been constructed with special surfaces compatible with walkers and wheelchairs, as well as the dugouts, parking and drop-off areas are all handicapped accessible.
